India is now 3rd Domestic Airline Market according to reports based on Official Airline Guide (OAG) data from April 2024. Now India has become the third-largest domestic airline market in the world. This is a significant jump from its fifth position a decade ago.

Indian domestic airline capacity has doubled in the last decade, from 7.9 million seats in April 2014 to 15.5 million in April 2024.
India’s capacity growth rate is the highest among the top five countries, averaging 6.9% annually.
Low-cost carriers (LCCs) dominate the Indian market, with IndiGo being the leading player. IndiGo’s market share has almost doubled from 32% to 62% in the last decade. IndiGo and Air India now also have their focusing on international expansion, but their substantial narrow-bodied aircraft orders will surge domestic capacity.
Meanwhile the US and China remains the top two domestic airline markets with 86.1 million and 67.8 million seats, India has surpassed Brazil and Indonesia to reach the third position.
