General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is once again participating in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, the world’s largest International Maritime Exercise, in 2024. Their MQ-9B SeaGuardian Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) is playing a key role in supporting the U.S. Navy during the exercise.
SeaGuardian Capabilities:
Multi-Domain ISR&T: SeaGuardian is the first UAS to offer multi-domain Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Targeting (ISR&T) as an internal payload. It can search both the ocean surface and depths, providing valuable support for Fleet Operations.
Payloads: SeaGuardian is equipped with a variety of payloads, including:
- SeaVue Multi-role radar from Raytheon
- SNC’s Electronic Support Measures (EMS) solution
- Automatic Identification System (AIS)
- Self-contained Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) system
- Sonobuoy Dispensing System (new for RIMPAC 2024)

- High-definition Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) imaging system

RIMPAC 2024:
SeaGuardian arrived at RIMPAC 2024 with over 8,000 flight hours under its belt, demonstrating its operational readiness. This year, GA-ASI is showcasing the UAS’s new Sonobuoy Dispensing System, highlighting its ability to deploy sonobuoys for monitoring and control.
