Amara Raja plans to establish new lead-acid battery plant in North India

Amara Raja Batteries, a prominent Indian manufacturer, has announced plans to establish a new lead-acid battery plant in North India. This strategic move is part of their larger goal to de-risk their operations and enhance their market presence in the North and West Indian regions.

The company’s chairman, Jayadev Galla, stated that the new plant is part of their efforts to de-risk their business and better cater to the markets in North and West India. This indicates a strategic move to diversify their manufacturing base and reduce reliance on a single location.

The plant is planned to have a capacity of 6 million units per annum. While an official figure hasn’t been explicitly stated, estimates suggest an investment in the range of Rs 700-800 crore. This underlines the significance of this expansion for Amara Raja.

While a specific timeline for completion hasn’t been explicitly provided, the company aims to commission the plant within the next two to three years. This suggests a commitment to bringing the new facility online in the near future.

This expansion aligns with Amara Raja’s focus on mitigating business risks and improving their ability to serve customers in the northern and western parts of India. The new facility will help them better manage potential disruptions and ensure a consistent supply of batteries to these key markets.

The investment for this new plant is estimated to be in the range of Rs 700-800 crore. While a specific timeline for completion hasn’t been publicly announced, the company aims to commission the plant within the next two to three years.

Overall, Amara Raja’s plans to set up a lead-acid battery plant in North India represent a significant step forward for the company. This move will strengthen their market position, improve their operational resilience, and contribute to their long-term growth.
